Slash your electric bill in few simple
steps
Maybe your eco awareness was low to the
minute your monthly electricity bill landed in your mailbox. So going ECO mean thinking green in two aspects:
the green world but also the green in your wallet.
You can think and do both at the same time. you can cut your
electricity bill amount significantly
If you want to know how
to cut electricity costs check the earth4energy guide
The simple steps are getting unused appliances off, put the right temperature for the water heater and power on
your dryer, washing machine or dishwasher only when they have full capacity. You can find much more detailed tips
at our electricity saving tips page
At the same time, try to look at some free online energy calculators. We gathered the best ones for you in our
Money calculators page. You
can also consider the web as the first choice to find energy saving appliances or bulbs
Here are some other “thinking” areas where you can find a lot of savings
Think Climate Control
In a regular home up to 44% of your utility bill, goes on climate control like heating or warming your
surroundings.
Put a programmable thermostat. This can reduce energy wasted
while heating or cooling a house when no one is home or all asleep. Energy programmable thermostats can save up to
30% on your climate control costs by allowing for multiple daily settings and automatically adjusting when the
outside temperature changes. Some of the more respected and known manufacturers include Honeywell, Hunter Fan and
Smart Systems International. Keep an eye out for those with features typical of the Energy Star thermostats:
temperature recovery systems, two programs and four temperature settings.
Think Ceiling fans
Moving air tends to give you a cooling feeling. During summer this can give higher temperature setting in your air
conditioner. The effect of using fans is equal to lowering the air temperature by about 4° F (2° C), and using less
energy than air conditioners in doing so.
Think Lighting, Cooking and other Appliances The next-area of energy use is lighting,
cooking and other appliances. Not counting the fridge, these make up about 33% of a typical utility bill.
Think Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL’s)
CFL’s use 75% less energy (!!!) than standard incandescent bulbs and will live up to 10 times longer. Despite the
fact they’re also more expensive to start with the overall saving is huge. If you can get “buy 2 get 1” or any
other package on CFL, you are even in better shape.
Think Energy-efficient Appliances
From all the appliances at your home, the refrigerator is most likely the biggest energy consumer and if it is
older than 15 years it is even more energy consumed then you can think of. It is alone responsible for up to 9% of
your energy costs alone. Try to find its energy rating and if it’s not efficient one, look to replace it with more
energy-efficient models.
Hot Water Heating
Heating water is another big energy cost item.
Think Hot Water Jackets
You can find a hot water jackets for $10 to $20. Use the Web to find offline deals in this case.
Think it from Day one When you’re considering buying a new home, you can plan for
energy savings from the ground up with an energy-efficient homebuilding project. Check the DOE’s Building America
and the EPA sites to find projects near you.
