What is Renewable Energy?
Renewable
energy is sustainable energy that comes from the natural environment. Certain sources of energy are
“renewable” as they are maintained or replaced by nature. Renewable energy is obtained from sources that are
essentially inexhaustible, unlike fossil fuels, of which there is a finite supply and cannot be replenished. The
best example, we do not need to find new 'reservoirs' of wind, solar or geothermal energy. The energy is always
there, Renewable sources of energy include solar, wind, water, biomass, wood, waste, geothermal, wind,
photovoltaic, and solar thermal energy. Non renewable energy sources include coal, oil and natural gas.
Can renewable energy really power my home or
business?
Many renewable
energy systems can be integrated with the regular electricity provided by your local utility. This is
called grid integration and it is increasingly popular around the world

When will renewable energy replace coal and nuclear
power plants?
At the moment the most common energy sources are nuclear and fossil-fuel-based and it is still quite
inexpensive. However, the price of these sources and especially fossil fuels continue to rise and the price of
solar and renewable energy continues to decline. Because we experienced major rise in the price of oil production
people are increasing their demand for clean energies.
There are some countries such as Japan, Germany and some developing countries, where renewable energies are already
competitive due to a number of market forces. These are the same market forces that becomes relevant to consumers
in North America (i.e. the high price of fossil fuels, increasing government incentives and concern for global
warming, to name a few).
What are the environmental benefits of renewable
energy?
Every KwH of electricity produced by a renewable energy system comes instead of the same amount of electricity
produced by conventional power generation stations that are using fossil fuels or natural gas or coal that
contribute to CO2, SO2, NOx and smog. Clean renewable energy production reduces these parts that we usually call
smog and by that reduce significant health problem on the same hot sunny days when a solar energy system can
produce electricity at its peak level
